April Ross
April Ross is only one of only a handful of beach volleyball players to have won medals multiple times at an Olympics. Alix Klineman, playing for the first time at Tokyo's Olympic Games is hoping to secure her third medal. Ross is also hoping to win her first Olympic medal. It could be the last time she has the chance as she is 39 years old. Her confidence is high nevertheless. If we play our highest or do well, I believe we'll win the gold medal Ross declared on NBC Boston. Therefore, I'm hoping to have a little bit of luck too. Ross was a Californian born in the city of Costa Mesa in 1982. She grew up in Costa Mesa along with her parents and sibling. In addition to playing in numerous sport, she also attended Newport Harbor High School. When she was a student in the prep school she played the indoor game of volleyball, as well as basketball and track. She stood out however in this sport. In her time at the high school level, according to her college profile, she played as an outside-hitter, middle blocker and setter. In recognition of her accomplishments she was awarded the Gatorade Award for National Player in 1999. She also received the Orange County Athlete of the year award for volleyball. Ross Klineman and Ross may have begun working together in the year 2017, however Ross had already been a seasoned volleyball player before they came together. It's true that she has been able to win multiple tournaments, including one with a legendary volleyball player. For six years from 2007 until 2013, she was a team alongside Jennifer Kessy who more recently served as her and Klineman's coach. Along with Kessy, Ross won an Olympic Title in 2009, while racing on the international circuit. In 2012, the duo were awarded silver medals at the London Olympics. They were beaten out for the gold by the legendary team comprised of Misty May-Treanor as well as Kerri Walsh (Jennings). Ross was Walsh Jennings new partner after May-Treanor's retirement. The team won bronze in beach volleyball at the Rio Olympics 2016. Ross competed for USC Trojans throughout her college prior to becoming a professional. And her run at the school was an impressive one. In 2000, she was voted Pac-10 Freshman as well as NCAA Freshman Of The Year. She was also named an All-American. In addition, she helped her Trojans to reach the Final Four. The Trojans were devastated by a tragic incident in her sophomore years, yet she was able to make it an All-American once more. In her last two seasons within the team, she guided the Trojans to the summit of the mountain by winning two three consecutive championships at the national level. The individual accomplishments of her have established her as a volleyball legend. She was awarded the Honda Sports Award 2003-04 for the top female NCAA player. Ross was a student of the study of international relations in USC. Unfortunately, Ross mom Margie never got to see Ross rise to the top levels of beach volleyball superstardom. In 2001 when Ross was a sophomore studying at USC her mother passed away due to breast cancer. However, she keeps her mother in her his heart. Margie is an inspiration on and off of the shore.
