Whitney Elizabeth Houston is a artist that was born in Newark New Jersey on the 9th of August 1963. The parents of her are gospel stars Cissy Houston(n e Emily Lee Drinkard), and John Russell Houston Jr. Whitney's cousin Dionne Warwick sings as well. In Newark, Whitney began singing with the choir of the church when she was a young child. At the age 15 she joined her mother in backing vocals in Chaka's hit Im Every Woman from 1978. Then, she performed background vocals for Lou Rawls & Jermaine jackson and even her mother. The singer was first a featured vocalist for the The New York-based New York Funk band Material. Her vocal quality performance attracted the attention of the major label Arista which she joined in 1983. The album she released as her debut Whitney Houston was released in 1985 and became the biggest-selling album of a debut artist. Tracks like the title track, The Greatest Love of All, How Can I Tell If You Give Love and the song Saving All My Love were all released from the album. They allowed Houston to reach the seven US top tens which were higher than even those of The Beatles. The album came out in 1987 and sold 25 million copies across the globe. The album that followed it in 1987 Whitney that included hits The Place Do Broken Hearts Go and I Wanna Dance With Somebody built upon her successes, but it was the 1992 film The Bodyguard (1992) that made her one of the most successful artists in history. While the movie and the actor's performance weren't highly praised, the soundtrack album that featured her interpretation of Dolly Parton's I Will Always Love You was the top-selling single and album for several months. It sold more than 44 million copies worldwide. Their daughter Bobbi is born the month of March of 1993, the year following her wedding to Bobby Brown. In the same year her use of drugs became well documented and she started using it daily until 1996.
